Step 1: Immediate Protection
After your tattoo is complete, you will be provided a protective bandage (Flex Tattoo Bandage by Saniderm). This transparent, breathable film serves several purposes:
-
Protection: Shields the tattoo from dirt, bacteria, and other external contaminants.
-
Hydration: Locks in the body's natural healing fluids, which are rich in enzymes and nutrients essential for healing.
Comfort: Reduces friction between the tattoo and clothing, preventing irritation.

Step 2: Initial Bandage Care
-
First 24 Hours: Leave the initial Saniderm bandage on for 24 hours. During this time, plasma and excess ink may accumulate under the bandage. This is normal.
-
Avoid Premature Removal: Do not peel off or adjust the bandage unless instructed.

Step 3: Removing the Bandage
-
When to Remove: After 24 hours, carefully remove the bandage. The easiest way to do this is in the shower, where warm water can help loosen the adhesive.
-
How to Remove: Peel the bandage slowly, pulling it back over itself rather than away from the skin to minimize discomfort.

Step 4: Cleaning the Tattoo
Once the bandage is removed, follow these steps:
-
Wash Gently: Use lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, mild soap to gently clean the tattoo.
-
Rinse Thoroughly: Ensure all soap is rinsed off to prevent irritation.
-
Pat Dry: Use a clean, soft paper towel to gently pat the area dry. Do not rub.

Step 5: Reapplying Saniderm
-
Second Bandage: Apply a new Saniderm bandage after cleaning the tattoo.
-
Duration: This bandage can stay on for 3–5 days. Do not leave the bandage on for more than 7 consecutive days.
Monitor the Bandage: If excessive fluid builds up or the edges begin to lift, replace the bandage.

Step 6: Long-Term Aftercare
-
Moisturization: After removing the second bandage, switch to a fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizer. Apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily to keep the tattoo hydrated.
-
Sun Protection: Avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo while it’s healing.
-
Avoid Submersion: For the first 2–3 weeks, avoid swimming, hot tubs, or soaking in baths, as prolonged moisture can cause scabbing or fading.
